Curacao is becoming one of the leading tourist destinations in the Caribbean with growing accommodations and activities. Scuba diving among Curacao’s famous coral reefs remains the most popular activity. For those of us who can’t dive or aren’t certified but still want to experience the beauty of Curacao’s colorful ocean floor, the recently added Substation dive is one that everyone can enjoy.

Substation Curacao introduces Curasub, a mini-submarine for tourists stationed in Bapor Kibra. This may sound similar to other submarine tours on different islands, but it is far from the same. Curasub is based on the well proven 30 year old Aquarius submarine, which is still operational today. This mini-sub dives 1,000 feet to the ocean floor reaching places most people have never seen.

The dive offers some of the best views of coral, schools of colorful fish, and old shipwrecks up close and personal. Only glass stands between you and the fish. The clear Caribbean water makes for perfect diving conditions, offering 60 feet of visibility. Because the submarine dive has no effects of pressure change on the body, people who are unfit to dive because of medical reasons are almost always allowed to dive with the submarine.

With the opening of the new facility, the whole family can enjoy diving. Another benefit of the new facility is its use for scientific marine research. The depths the submarine is capable of will allow scientists to reach parts of the ocean floor that have never been explored. With the vast size of the ocean, there are an infinite amount of unexplored territory. Using this submarine, scientists may be able to solve a new array of marine questions and tourists can say they were aboard the same submarine. Either way, the reviews from previous tourists have been nothing but positive so make sure you don't miss out next time you're in Curacao.
